Lilies. Beloved symbol of the Aesthetic movement: pale, ephemeral, opulent, beautiful. Art for art's sake. William Morris et al. It's no secret that William Morris is a huge influence on my work, not only for his design genius but also his wider views on society and the place of art and design in it. This is a cool linen, short sleeved shirt. The glorious flowers are 'writ large' in a schema of three basic, semi-flat colours - papyrus, warm white and vibrant phthalo turquoise, against a rich oxidised orange ground. Very poetic. Notes of oatmeal and rose madder intersperse in delicate stamens and fine, trailing linear elements add a note of decorative abstraction and definition to forms. This season we are specialising in high definition prints on linen - not easy to do as the relatively open weave of the fabric mitigates against detail. However, the results speak for themselves; a wonderful, welcome addition to my short sleeved shirts for Summer
